Shearing strength of steel plates under torsion of box-girders
Torque tests of steel plates were carried out to determine torsional stiffness of box-girders; specimens were specified in plate thickness of 6 mm, width of 21 cm, and length of 1.75 m; SS-41 and SM-50-A steels were used; yielding strength of these are about 26 and 35 kg/sq cm, respectively; interactions of strength of plates between yielding stress in shear and buckling strength were obtained experimentally against ratio of plate width to plate thickness; shearing modulus of elasticity is obtained from stress measurements of plates and is compared to that which is calculated from actual torsional stiffness of girders. English summary.
