Problems encountered in design and installation of piling in New York City area for support of structures, resulting from highly diversified and complex soil and foundation conditions prevailing in areas requiring piling and from lack of applicability of types of piles used for conditions involved; factors affecting problems such as, relaxation, influences of size and shape of piling, pile loading, and sloping rock conditions, are examined, and specific cases pertaining to each are described.
