Settlements of piles and groups of piles
Mathematical expression is derived that gives ratio settlement-friction strength exerted by soil on pile shaft; it is shown that friction forces, for given formation, are constant along height measured from surface grade, and below they are proportional to settlement of pile; value of height increases with strength applied to reach full depth of pile at moment of failure; deformations of soil around pile are proportional to load applied and inversely proportional to distance.
