Subsurface fracturing from shoal nuclear detonation
Extent of underground nuclear explosion effects on rock beyond chimney and its possible beneficial influence on production of oil and natural gas from reservoirs having low productivity because of low permeability were studied; preshot and postshot geophysical logs in hole drilled from surface through zone of fractures indicated that fractures extended at least 5.3 cavity radii laterally from point of detonation; general descriptions of Shoal Project, geology of test site, and other effects of detonation.
