Methods for objective appraisal of violin tone quality
In earlier developed method, violin body placed in anechoic chamber was excited impulsively by steel ball impacting upon boxwood plate glued to violin bridge, and sound spectra were registered using three-octave spectrometer; method is improved by introducing calculation of quantitative point rating of tone on basis of subjectively indicated qualities of timbre and using Stradivari, 1736, violin as standard of 100% excellence rating.
