Indentation analysis for rock having parabolic yield envelope
Load required to force idealized rock bit tooth into rock is studied; this is done by means of plane strain analysis of force required for incipient plasticity of rock under sharp wedge-shaped tooth; rock is assumed to yield when Mohr stress circle becomes tangent to parabolic failure envelope; in specific example where parabolic envelope is fitted to triaxial compressive test data for marble analysis provides good agreement with results of indentation experiments.
