Formation of axially symmetrical limit loads around mine roadways of circular section
Stress conditions prevailing about tunnels of circular cross-section are discussed; characteristics of lias rocks encountered in mining industry of Mecsek mountain, in Hungary, have been determined experimentally; essential component of elastic behavior exists in rocks in which Poisson's ratio is constant, but at increasing loads Poisson's ratio tends towards 0.5, and plastic range becomes apparent; yield condition in unsupported roadway of circular section is deduced; from this are determined critical depth, dimensions of plastic zone around roadway, and plastic and elastic stresses.
