Elasticity and plasticity of some rocks; compression tests were made on 10 dry rocks, including peridotite, diorite, granite, andesite, trachyte, tuff, and marble, and pressure dependence of Young's modulus, plasticity, and strength are determined; transition from brittle fracture to ductile flow and pressure dependence of strength are also discussed; mechanical property of rocks under confining pressure seems to depend on porosity as well as on mineral composition.
