Unique materials mix used to seal large diameter casing in borehole
New cementing process was successful in cementing large-diameter casing in salt stock at Tatum salt dome near Hattiesburg, Miss; process involved use of two new cementing materials and was applied in primary cementing of 20-in. casing in 28-in. hole; key ingredients in solution included expanding cementand chemical grout; both were topped with inexpensive filler; for satisfactory seal, temperature and pressure differentials were minimized by circulating 4.5 lb/gal cooled fluid during cure; some grouting and cementing procedures could be modified to seal mine shaft lining.
