Unique new boat enters U. S. steel service
USS-1, 70×20×8.6 ft towboat, built by St. Louis Shipbuilding and Steel Co for United States Steel Corp, has all welded stainless steel hull; also all exposed surfaces below main deck are of this alloy including struts, 60-in. propellers and double plated notched rudders; powered by two Caterpillar D-375 diesels developing 300 hp each at 1225 rpm.
