Sewer construction by trial-and-error methods in Saskatoon, Sask
Storm sewer construction by hand tunneling methods; works hindered by sand, clay, and water pouring into tunnel; freezing was unsuccessful; use of hydraulic jack to press poling plates forward as tunnel advanced, was abandoned; electro-osmosis and chemical solidification were not satisfactory; use of splinter boards; pressure grouting with cement-sand-sawdust mixture; push-type tunneling method proved best. (see also Eng J v 41 n 8 Aug 1958 p 71-7, 87)
