Dredge strips swamp muck, backfills sand for work area
Shallow draft hydraulic dredge replaced conventional sheetpile trenching methods in laying of 84 in. reinforced concrete sewer line across 4500-ft wide swamp at South River, NJ; dredge stripped thick overlying mat of muck along pipe's centerline, then backfilled excavation with sand to make solid work area across swamp.
