Critical review of work done in overseas countries on natural purification of raw sewage and sewage effluents in stabilization ponds; results indicate that stabilization ponds offer simple, economical and successful method of adapting natural forces for complete purification of sewage; principles of microbiology, biochemistry and oxygen transfer are explained and design criteria of existing installations summarized.
