Union Dome tank car repair and maintenance shop at Baton Rouge, La, is 120 ft high and 384 ft in diam; building has no interior supports or posts; structure itself consists of hexagonal 1/8 in. steel panels welded together, which are supported by tension rods from outer truss of 4 in. pipe; walls rise and curve upward until they join to complete dome above shop floor; shop accommodates 36 tank cars.
