Use of gypsum plaster as model material
Study of stresses and deflections produced by point loads acting on rectangular plate simply supported on its two short sides, and free, but stiffened by ribs, on two long edges; slab was supported on balls and loaded by steelyard, at various points; greater part of air bubbles trapped in mixed cream of plaster and water were entrained during mixing process; these could be eliminated by subjecting wet mix, prior to casting, to vacuum pressure.
