New water supply tunnel for New York City
Said to be longest continuous tunnel in world, City Tunnel No. 2 has total length of 20 mi and generally prevailing diam is 17 ft inside concrete lining; to provide new means of delivering water primarily to boroughs of Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn; tunnel was driven from 19 shafts; shaft sinking; mucking, blasting and concreting.
