Notes on examination of specimen cut from sandstone slab from roof of verandah in Jumma Musjid built by Shah Jahan, over which 18-in. layer of lime concrete had been placed to strengthen slabs; flaking is attributed to saturation with solution of salts from ground and later crystallization at or near surface of stone; destructive effects can be minimized by applying waterproof coating.
