Feasibility study of buried anchors in polar snow
Load resistance behavior of buried anchors was investigated to determine feasibility of using them as part of reaction system for containing forces generated by pile test loading devices; test program was conducted at Camp Century, Greenland; anchors were tested in quick extraction and under sustained long-term extraction; each anchor consisted of circular steel plate buried, in snow-backfilled augered hole with two steel tie rods connecting plate to loading device on surface; results of exploratory study established feasibility of using buried anchors in polar snow for pile test program.
