Profiles of round turbulent jet in cross flow
Shape of jet issuing normal to uniform cross wind has been studied experimentally for large range of jet-to-wind velocity ratios and over large distance downstream of source; photographs taken of oil aerosol jet were used to determine size and position of jet, and mean velocity measurements were made close to outlet; momentum flux equation combined with experimental observation leads to single form for profile; experimental measurements also show that shape follows same parameter, and indicate zones of jet in which translational and vortex motions dominate; consequences of form of results are discussed.
