Determination of two performance parameters of ammonium nitrate/fuel explosives using ballistic mortar
Use of ballistic mortar as means of measuring performance parameters of Ammonium Nitrate (AN)/fuel explosives; by introduction of steel confining sleeve into firing chamber of ballistic mortar, it was found that degree of similarity of explosive decomposition in mortar and borehole was enhanced; in this modified form, mortar provided accurate relative values of bubble energy rather than maximum available energy; significance of bubble energy in rock breakage processes is discussed; effects of various parameters on both bubble energies and sensitivities of AN/fuel compositions are discussed.
