Tremie tie-backs in soggy soil
It is shown how tie-backs for 36-story San Francisco, Calif building excavation were grouted in wet ground by using special drilling rig's hollow auger as tremie pipe; method is similar to that by which tremie concrete is placed, in that tightly controlled withdrawal of concrete placing apparatus is essential to prevent watery material from displacing concrete; coordination of withdrawal speed with size and number of rotations of auger and to rate of flow of grout is necessary.
