Cathedral church of Pattern College, Oakland, Calif, was floodlighted when built, but vandals damaged fixtures beyond repair; sturdily-built, ground-level units were chosen after cost comparison with pole-mounted units, and testing determined specific location and target angle of each luminaire; twenty-six 250-w mercury vapor, heavy-duty luminaires were installed at strategic points to light sanctuary exterior and church grounds.
