Stresses in end zones of cylindrical concrete shells
Experimental work with model concrete shells is described; shells were 9 ft long, 3 ft wide and 1/2 in. thick; 17 shells were tested to examine stresses near end traverse, and particularly in corner of shell; results are compared with those obtained analytically when disturbance from longitudinal straight edge is considered and when disturbance from curved end is also taken into account; latter analysis predicts much higher corner stresses than former.
