Rock as upstream slope protection for earth dams -- 149 case histories
Data on types of stone used on 149 Bureau of Reclamation earth dams were compiled to determine desirability of natural stone as upstream slope protection; data include physical properties of stone, design features, placement characteristics, costs, and operational behavior for riprap on each of earth structures investigated; types of failure are presented as well as conditions representing various grades of upstream slope protection; cost curves, designs for high wind velocities, and other special conditions are given; special study of erosion failure at Cedar Bluff Dam is described.
