Statistic study on failure, damage and deterioration of earth dams in Japan
More than 10,000 earth dams several hundred years old exist in Japan which are still being used for reservoirs for rice-paddy irrigation; by investigating 1046 cases of impairment of earth dams in Japan during 16 yr between 1950 and 1965, dividing impairment into eight classifications and combining these with four types of causes, 14 categories of failure, damage and deterioration of dams were obtained.
