Seismic resistance criteria for earth fill dams
In recent years research on wide scale has been carried out in Soviet Union on dams affected by seismic forces; experimental data were obtained from observations during heavy earthquakes; this investigation has shown that acceleration due to vibrations during earthquakes was greater than had been supposed; new parameters of soil vibrations were determined; criteria of seismic resistance of earth fill dams were formulated; detailed theoretical and experimental study on real earth fill dams solves problem of construction of complicated structures in regions with high seismic activity.
