Dam across Penticton Creek will store water to supplement water supply for city of Penticton and to irrigate 1530 acres of orchard within city itself; trench will be filled with impervious material which consists of well-graded mixture of gravel, sand and silt with small amount of clay; amount of silt and clay in mixture is between 25 and 40%; core trench is excavated to bedrock on east abutment and into relatively impervious glacial till in creek bottom and west abutment; it will serve as cut-off wall to prevent seepage through foundation of dam; another diversion dam 12 mi downstream will divert water from Penticton Creek through 4300 ft long tunnel to distribution system.
