A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Case history based on investigations of internal stresses in mass structures including foundation; example covered is dam 693 ft in structural height founded on granite gneiss foundation; results show that stresses in gravity dam can be affected by foundation jointing, and it may be desirable to include effects of this jointing in internal stress analysis; method used in investigations was finite element method, utilizing IBM 7040 computer, and Corps of Engineers computer program number 13J9H470.
