After 20 yr operation, it is possible to draw few general conclusions on methods applied for maintaining 230 dams operated by Electricite de France; upstream face is most in need of repairs; two categories concern joints and fissures or whole face area; dam foundations may need other methods, mostly consisting in grouting and drainage; body of dam itself has had to be repaired in certain instances -- at La Girotte, large splinter fell off through frost action; at Eguzon, prestressed cables were set in place; at La Bromme, upper third of block was keyed by grouting; work is now under way on buttresses of Grandval dam.
