Readings are taken regularly at 25 gravity, buttress, arch, and embankment dams constructed in North of Scotland for hydroelectric projects; all gravity and buttress dams measured have deflections and settlements not exceeding about 4.0 mm; under normal operating conditions these have annual cycle and respond primarily to changes of temperature in concrete; precise leveling is also used.
