Elastic-plastic foundation model for punch-shear failure
New foundation model which has been proposed in literature, and which consists of two elastic spring layers interconnected by elastic shear layer, is generalized to include effect of plastic yielding in foundation; classical two-dimensional problem of infinitely long rigid strip resting on surface of subgrade is treated; effect of yielding on load-deflection curve and contact pressure distribution is discussed; theoretical results are in qualitative agreement with limited available experimental data.
