Metallurgical complex "sidmar" at Gand-Zelate
Foundation problems; owing to presence of 60 m deep alternating fine sand and silt strata, building site required extensive geotechnical studies, followed by tests of different soil consolidation methods (vibroflotation, compacted sand piles), tests of foundation slab resting on consolidated soil, and tests of friction and end bearing Franki piles under various types of loading; results presented in graphs led to adopting proper solutions for foundations under cold and hot rolling mils, slabbing mill, blast furnaces, and stocking yards.
