New pathological laboratories of St. Mary's Hospital Medical School at Paddington stand, literally, on rubber bearings; space available for new building measured approximately 85×45 ft in plan and five-story structure was feasible; each of four main foundation bearings are in form of shallow symmetrical V with its trough on centerline of column it supports; between convex V at base of each column and corresponding concave V in each foundation is 4 in. thick pad of natural rubber.
