Dispersion of floating particles in uniform channel flow
Investigation of dispersion of small particles floating on surface of open channel with uniform flow and wide rectangular cross section; dispersion experiments were supplemented by measurements of turbulence intensities and correlation function below surface of water; turbulence was found to be anisotropic, longitudinal dispersion being nearly twice lateral dispersion; by application of established relation between Lagrangian and Eulerian correlation functions and principle of Reynolds' number similarity, simple description of one-particle diffusion is obtained.
