Measuring long-term deformations in multistory reinforced concrete building
Historical review of deformation measurements and description of University of Kentucky procedures for 7-story reinforced concrete frame building with floors of beam and pan-joist construction; major conclusion is that strains in concrete induced by live loads are extremely small compared to strains caused by lead load, creep, and shrinkage; it also can be seen from dynamic tests that live load, even when increased to maximum possible, has little effect on structural action of such building; photographs and sketches of strain gages, location of measuring plugs in building, and stress-strain diagrams are given.
