Materials, their specifications, and installation; fundamental differences between reinforced and prestressed concrete are summarized; analysis is made of various types of shrinkage and creep of concrete under load, their relative importance, and recommendations of ASP (Scientific Assn for Prestress) which should be taken into account in structure design; ASP specifications for tensioning wires and cables are reviewed, and methods for reducing relaxation and creep effects as well as corrosion are examined; new potential materials used in prestressed concrete structures (epoxies, glass fibers) are mentioned.
