Review of worldwide advances in prestressing of concrete, as reported to Fifth Congress of Federation International de la Pre contrainte in Paris June 1966, as briefed by United States authority in this field; prestressed concrete bars for tension reinforcement are new and reduce cracking; segmental construction, with big precast units glued on by epoxy and then held by post-tensioning, is increasing; use of post-tensioning connections to join precast units is common; prestressed concrete is increasingly used for pressure vessels, such as those for nuclear containment; light weight concrete is widely used in prestressing; better protection of wires from corrosion has been found essential; this is done in some cases by encasing post-tensioning tendons separately, outside structure itself.
