Theories of cracking in reinforced concrete under simple bending and direct tension
Investigations into width and spacing of cracks in reinforced concrete beams and other members have been made by Watstein and Parsons, L.P. Brice, Saliger, Efsen, Wastlund, and A.P.Clark, and others; European Committee for Concrete recently undertook comprehensive study of problem and suggested generalized approach synthesizing different concepts; various recommendations have been expressed in simple formulas for practical application and these have been summarized; two cases only -- circular bending and direct tension -- have been discussed and general equations derived.
