Automatic data processing techniques in civil engineering laboratories
Method is given in which moderately priced, adaptable installation can be assembled in stages to embrace work of various civil engineering laboratories without duplication of effort; example of use of electric strain gages in Structures Laboratory of Sunderland Technical College, Great Britain, with direct connection to digital computer; it is envisaged that one large switchboard in central control room could be constructed with permanent wiring giving adequate channels to various laboratories; two-way direct teleprinter lines to computer could be installed, so that punched tape output from various transducers could be processed and results quickly returned to laboratories.
