Analysis of restrained columns permitted to sway
Numerical method for analyzing restrained steel columns subjected to combined axial force, end moments, and horizontal shear is presented; columns are rotationally restrained at both ends and laterally restrained at upper end; relative translation of two ends (or sway) is permitted to occur; method can be used to analyze for both elastic and inelastic response of such columns provided that material properties are known; numerical examples are given to illustrate method.
