Terrain analysis for metropolitan fringe area planning
Effective master plans for land use must be based on analysis of social, economic, political, and environmental factors that affect use of land so that optimum utilization of available land in planning area will result; land use suitability ratings are based primarily on topography, soil, drainage, and depth to bedrock characteristics of land areas; author recommends that evaluation of physical characteristics of land be integral part of development of master plans for land use that will set pattern for future development in metropolitan fringe areas and suggests that land use suitability maps similar to one presented be used in process of planning for future urban development.
