Surface cracking of hydrated cement pastes -- Interpretation
Tests at Instituto Eduardo Torroja de la Construccion y del Cemento, Madrid, Spain, to determine possible causes of surface cracking of hydrated cement pastes by chemical and X-ray diffraction techniques; differences were found between composition and constitution of cracked surface zones of pastes and rest of mass; there was good correlation between chemical constituents calculated from chemical analysis and those deduced from X-ray diffraction results; differences seem to be due to bleeding of aqueous solution in cement paste together with extraction of soluble alkalies and calcium sulfate.
