Strength and microstructures of hardened cement pastes cured by autoclaving
Tests were carried out to identify kinds of calcium silicate hydrates formed and to determine their effects on mechanical strength or other properties of autoclaved test specimens; binding capacities of hydrate compounds; suitable conditions for autoclave curing of cements; materials used were ordinary portland cement, portland blast-furnace slag cement, and specially prepared cement; cement pastes were made at water-cement ratio of 0.30, mixed for 3 min, and molded into 4×4×16 cm prisms; specimens for chemical analysis were prepared by grinding hardened prisms finely and drying to constant weight at 105 to 110 C; ignition loss and free Ca(OH) 2 were determined.
