Navigation conditions at locks and dam no. 4 Monongahela river, Pennsylvania
Reconstruction of dam and eventual replacement of existing locks are part of modernization program of river navigation system; new locks will be placed parallel with clear chamber dimensions of 110 by 720 ft and 84 by 720 ft; 1 to 120-scale, fixed-bed model, reproducing approximately 2.5 mi of river, was used to determine effect of proposed reconstructed dam on flow conditions in lock approaches with existing and ultimate locks and for development of modifications which might be required to provide satisfactory navigation conditions.
