Waterproofing of constructions below ground line
German and French standards for waterproofing materials and techniques of applying waterproof linings in underground construction and tunnels are reviewed and compared; besides total imperviousness, important properties of waterproof linings are resistance to aging, cracking and compression, as well as homogeneity, adherence to protected surfaces, and flexibility; it was found that best in this respect and cheapest materials are jute-reinforced asphalt sheets and hot-applied oxidized asphalt coatings.
