Weathering of one-part silicone building sealants
Results of 6000 hr weatherometer exposure and 2 yr outdoor exposure (part of 20 yr weathering test program) of acid and nonacid cure silicone rubber building sealants; Shore A hardness, ultimate tensile strength, and ultimate elongation and peel adhesion tests; adhesion to stainless steel, cold rolled steel, aluminum, and glass showed virtually no difference from initial state after 4500 hr of exposure; data suggest that long term adhesive quality of nonacid cure system to wood is much better than that of acid cure system, but reason is as yet unknown.
