Suspender tension method for bridge analysis
Method is modification of deflection theory and is based on recognition of each individual suspender with its tension and stretch, and horizontal displacements of cable panel points; procedure, adapted to electronic computers, deals with solution of problems for suspension bridges with simply supported trusses; it simplifies study of secondary effects such as suspender inclination together with resulting variation to horizontal component of cable tension, variable moment of inertia along truss shear, elongation of suspenders, and tower motion.
