How intermittent firing affects boiler efficiency
Series of five tests was conducted to determine effect of intermittent firing with burner continuously fired at full firing rate; with burner fired 67% of time with on-periods of 40 min and off-periods of 20 min; with burner fired 50% of time with on-periods of 27 min and off-periods of 27 min; with burner fired 33% of time with on-periods of 20 min and off-periods of 40 min; and with burner fired 17% of time with on-periods of 16 min and off-periods of 80 min; firing rate for all tests was 10 gph; tests show importance of accurate burner sizing and proper adjustment of firing rate.
