Littoral processes and development of shorelines
Principles on nature of beaches and processes that act to modify them are considered in view of modern coastal development demands; working hypothesis is developed that applies principle of conservation of mass to mechanics of granular-fluid media; hypothesis has general application to sand transport processes in littoral zone; need for additional research to provide information in some critical areas before application of hypothesis is shown.
