Problems of aircraft skidding and aquaplaning on wet runways and civil engineering work of past ten years undertaken to deal with them; methods for improving existing runway pavements include mechanical roughening, surface dressing and additional surfacing; new concrete runways may be improved by texturing, asphalt pavements -- by grooves on surface; summary table is included of skidding tests on airfield runways; specifications are given for surface dressing, grooving asphalt runways, and for scoring concrete surfaces.
